AboutFlyingFish

In 1997 I moved from my home of Seattle, WA. to the Midwest, after trying out a few cities I’ve now settled in Milwaukee, WI. This is where I do the majority of my projects, which range from handmade goodies, painting, photography, playing the musical saw and as of June 2005 running my store the Paper Boat Boutique & Gallery.

Myself, along with a lot of the artists and designers involved in the new wave of craft have made things my entire life. The following is a brief “how it came to be” that I am able to survive (usually) as a full time working artist.

Flying Fish began as a gallery I co-owned here in Milwaukee, located in the River West neighborhood. The gallery lasted about a year and had many successful shows (you can read more about Flying Fish Gallery in the archives section).

Upon shutting it’s doors I decided to keep the name using it as my moniker for the first ever Renegade Craft Fair. Participating in the Renegade Craft Fair was a really exciting, motivating, eye opening experience. Seeing all these other people in one place who also were making there own amazing creations blew my mind. From that point on, Flying Fish Design became my focus.

Many other amazing projects sprouted out of that first craft fair. Not only

did Flying Fish take off and retailers all over the world now carry the things I make, but it also spawned Art vs. Craft & my shop The Paper Boat Boutique & Gallery.

Art vs. Craft was my way of showing the city of Milwaukee that all these people are making cool, hip, handcrafted items. The first show in November 2004 was such a success; it's now a bi-annual event with 90 vendors from the Midwest & beyond.

Because the Milwaukee community was so responsive to Art vs. Craft in June 2005 myself and Kimberly Kisiolek opened a brick and mortar shop to showcase year round the talent and skills of all of the amazing artists, crafters and designers I have met. The shop has over 75 designers and a stellar gallery line up.

All of these things have come together out of a community that is so supportive, creative and progressive that I feel so honored and lucky to be a part of it all.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my work. Please remember it’s just me

making all these things, sometimes a helper or too when the busy times hit. So, please be patient if your order takes up to 2 weeks.

If you are interested in wholesale terms, please drop a line and tell me a bit about your store.
